Nearly 2,000 trucks sidelined during Roadcheck inspection blitz in Texas
In total, the Texas Department of Public Safety inspected 8,182 commercial vehicles during the blitz, placing 1,938 of those (or 23.6 percent) out-of-service.

Out-of-service conditions related to ELDs
The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance’s updated out-of-service criteria include those related to electronic logging devices. None are new OOS conditions. Rather, they’re footnotes related to current OOS conditions having to do with the hours of service, namely having no log book, having no previous seven days of logs and presenting a false log. All require putting the driver OOS for 10 consecutive hours.

Unannounced brake inspection blitz sidelines nearly 2,000 trucks
CVSA inspectors in 33 U.S. states and 10 Canadian provinces conducted 9,524 inspections during the one-day inspection blitz. Of the 1,989 trucks placed out-of-service for various violations, 1,146 of them were parked for brake-related violations.

‘Level 8’ electronic inspection recognized by CVSA with other bulletin, policy updates
The move amounts to recognition of the definition for what such an inspection needs to include when North American “jurisdictions get the ability to do an electronic inspection,” said CVSA. None have such directly deployable ability today, though tech may not be far off given Level 8’s simplicity.
