Steve Hostetler hauls mostly ag-related commodities with this sharp 1998 Freightliner Classic, which he bought about a decade ago with close to a million miles behind it. Nine months after the purchase, the engine blew, "so my boys and I rebuilt it in a neighbor's shop," he said.
Hostetler and company do most of the work on the truck themselves, including a new paint job a few years ago. In January, they installed a new 12.7-liter Series 60 Detroit with the truck at almost 2 million miles. The engine's coupled with an Eaton 13-speed.
"It's been a real money maker," Hostetler said of the unit. While most of his work is in agriculture, he noted that he occasionally crosses over into industrials "when the price is right."
