Podcast: CARB compliance flexibility, or lack thereof, not set in stone

There’s still time for truck owners around the nation to engage with the California Air Resources Board on a set of compliance options Overdrive has reported on over the last several weeks, says Joe Rajkovacz of the California Construction Trucking Association.

Contrary to some reports out there, CARB’s apparent backpedaling on their own proposal to boost the low-use vehicle exemption mileage from 1,000 to at least 5,000 in-state California miles itself remains only that — a proposal — and a series of public meetings around the state in December will take stakeholder input. (Some good, more definitive news came out as we talked to Rajkovacz Friday, Nov. 24 — enforcement of the end-of-year Truck and Bus Rule deadline will not commence in January.)

Owner-operators/fleet owners around the nation, as Rajkovacz points out in the first of two podcasts on this subject planned for this week, can listen in on the Dec. 4 meeting webcast and file comments to the board via email. In the podcast, Rajkovacz belabors the point: It’s crucial to get involved if you could benefit from flexibility options like the mileage boost originally described by Rajkovacz. Find a list of the upcoming meetings below, and here’s a link to the document that details CARB staff’s proposed guidance on new flexibility options.

And to contribute your thoughts on CARB to Overdrive‘s next podcast, call 530-40-VOICE (530-408-6423), state your name and location and speak your piece: What do you think would be reasonable for CARB to do at this point to help truck owners who don’t run a large number of miles in the state?
