DOT declines to file opposition in ELD lawsuit’s appeal to Supreme Court
The attorney representing OOIDA and truckers Richard Pingel and Mark Elrod in the ELD challenge says it’s not uncommon for the government to decline to file in such court cases. However, he says, the Supreme Court could ask DOT to file an opposition brief before deciding to hear the case or not.

Florida legislature eyeing December 2018 ELD deadline for intrastate carriers, California uncertain
Florida’s move for its sizable intrastate market follows that of Texas, which adopted a December 2019 date for the ELD requirements for intrastate carriers. California Highway Patrol reps, meanwhile, note they’re yet uncertain on an intrastate ELD mandate there.

Director ELD platform self-certified
Teletrac Navman announced its Director ELD platform is now self-certified and listed on the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s electronic logging device registry under the name of its in-cab ELD component, the Teletrac Navman Drive unit.

Texas to require intrastate drivers to use ELDs by 2019, other states to follow
Texas has updated its hours of service code to require intrastate truckers to use electronic logging devices to record duty status. Truck operators in the state must begin using the devices by Dec. 19, 2019. Though Texas appears to be the first state to issue an ELD requirement for intrastate truckers, other states will likely soon follow.
