The Board of Directors for the Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association on Thursday voted unanimously to approve Todd Spencer as OOIDAâs new president. Heâs been elected to a five-year term and was sworn in as president last week.

OOIDA, safety groups rally against bill to allow under-21 interstate truckers
In a letter sent to the Houseâs Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, the committee where the bill was filed, OOIDA and a long list of other groups, told lawmakers they strongly oppose the DRIVE Actâs passage. The groups claim in the letter that younger drivers are much more likely to crash. The actâs training requirements are also âwoefully inadequate,â they write.

Bill in Congress would allow drivers to pause 14-hour clock for up to three hours
A bill filed in the U.S. House Thursday by Rep. Brian Babin (R-Texas) would allow drivers to take one break per day â of up to three hours â that does not count against their 14-hour on-duty allotment. The bill mirrors a petition filed by the Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association last month, calling for a pause button for driversâ daily 14-hour clock of up to three hours and the removal of the mandatory 30-minute break required by current hours regs.

OOIDA wants court to rehear case over sleep apnea guidelines for truckers
Following a courtâs dismissal of the case in January, OOIDA has filed a motion for the U.S. Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals to rehear its argument that FMCSA illegally altered sleep apnea screening guidelines for truck drivers. FMCSA refutes OOIDAâs assertions, and the court sided with FMCSA in January.

The Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association has filed a petition with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration asking the agency to allow drivers to pause their 14-hour daily clock for up to three straight hours and to nix the 30-minute rest break required by current hours regs.
