“The fireworks are over,” says DAT’s Ken Harper, but flat and van volumes remain above average for this time of year in the last week. At once, “rates slipped for vans as urgency around the end-of-quarter inventory moves, holiday shipments and Amazon Prime sales” fell off a bit.

Short holiday week on the spot market: Rates rose, though demand indicators lagged
The spot market last week saw lower load volumes than in recent weeks on DAT load boards, notes the company’s Ken Harper, mostly given the Fourth of July landed on a Tuesday this year. And though freight volumes were down, average rates for vans, reefers and flats were up by a dime, a nickel and a nickel respectively.
