Second FMCSA listening session on hours of service set for D.C.
The second of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s listening sessions on the proposed hours of service changes will be held Tuesday, Sept. 17, at U.S. DOT headquarters in Washington, D.C. The listening session will be held from 1-3 p.m. and is open to the public.

Truckers have until Oct. 7 to file comments on FMCSA’s hours of service proposal
Proposed changes include allowing drivers to pause their 14-hour on-duty clock for up to three hours and extending the split sleeper berth options for drivers to include splits of seven hours and three hours, among other proposed reforms; comments are being facilitated, likewise, at GATS this week.

Office edits to a log, unlike with many AOBRD systems, will go to the driver for final approval under the ELD spec. Survey results show some carriers and drivers clearly appreciate the ability with many AOBRDs to bypass any driver-approval step in the log-edit chain.

Hours of service listening session set for GATS
The GATS listening session, which will be at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center, will begin at 10 a.m. and is scheduled for two hours. FMCSA says the listening sessions will allow the public to present comments, views and relevant research on the proposed hours changes.
