Facelift and more for Mike Hussey’s 1999 Kenworth W900L
Mike and his wife, Corren, were among the many I met this past year at GBATS. Since purchasing the N14-powered W900L after it sat for 10 years, he’s put plenty into it, from an engine overhaul to rears and the transmission as well as exterior modifications.

The ’61 needlenose and ’74 cabover Petes — and a pair of 389 gliders — of Mel-Rick Inc.
At GBATS, Rick Bestwick and company — owners of the Mel-Rick Inc. 10-truck hopper and step-deck pulling fleet of Sabetha, Kan. — showed two classics and two hardworking gliders. Catch more about them, and the Mel-Rick business incorporated since the early 1980s, in this new video.

The rig sports a Paccar MX13 with an Eaton 13-speed and 3:36 rears. He pulls flatbed, conestoga and RGN freight out of Franklin, Indiana.

Donna Brackbill’s 2017 Freightliner Cascadia Evolution
The rig is powered by a 500-hp DD15 Detroit with a Detroit D12 automated transmission. She has added chrome mirror covers, an 18-inch stainless steel bumper, Hogebuilt quarter fenders, an aftermarket grille and ThermoKing TriPac APU, as well as a customized interior.

Dustin Lopedota’s 2018 Peterbilt 389
The cream paint job with mocha stripes and frame were custom ordered by the 60-truck fleet. The rig sports a 605-hp Cummins X15 with an 18-speed Eaton-Fuller and sits on a 309-inch wheelbase.

The 1972 Peterbilt 359 flagship of Smokin’ S Customs
Results of Steve Snelson’s years of work on this daycab. Snelson notes the rig remains a work in progress, details of which he takes up when he has the time. Less and less of that available as the Smokin’ S Customs business attracts more customers.

Kent Doucey’s 2018 Peterbilt 389
The rig sports a Cat C15 with an 18-speed and sits on a 292-inch wheelbase. The glider was built by Endrizzi Diesel in Bolivar, Missouri, and all custom work on the truck – including visors, custom boxes, rear fenders, light bars, panels and deck plate – was done by 4 State Trucks.

The rig is equipped with a 12.7-liter Detroit 60 Series with an Eaton 18-speed and hauls crude oil in Texas’ Permian Basin.

Metzger Trucking’s 2018 Kenworth W900L and 1976 W9 Bicentennial
The 2018 W9 features an 86-inch Studio Sleeper and is powered by a 550-hp Cummins ISX with an 18-speed. The ’76 W900 Bicentennial features original paint, a 350 Big Cam Cummins with a 13-speed and only has 800,000 miles.

Murry Smith’s 2019 Peterbilt 389 company truck
The rig sports a 565-hp Cummins X15 with an 18-speed Eaton and sits on a 278-inch wheelbase. The chrome and paint work on the truck was done by Sioux Falls Peterbilt.

Iowa-based independent’s restoration of an e-log-exempt 2000 Pete 379
The FMCSA’s change to its guidance on the pre-2000 model year exemption to the ELD mandate — when the agency specified the engine year instead of the chassis year as the determining factor — sealed the deal for owner-operator Scott Hampton in his plans to do a $75K custom-restoration of his 2000 Peterbilt 379.
