The nation's top investigative journalism program this weekend published an explosive report on Super Ego Holding on network television.

Super Ego, a network of foreign-owned or -associated brokers and carriers whose trailers are a common sight on U.S. roads, now stands accused of:

  • Electronic logging device and hours cheating
  • Effectively stealing driver pay with predatory lease contracts
  • Siphoning the money off overseas

The report ignited a firestorm of media attention, much of which highlights previous Overdrive reporting as well as data from Fusable, Overdrive's parent company

CBS's 60 Minutes program on Sunday, April 12, spoke to a trucking expert, Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administrator Derek Barrs, and a former driver who said he was forced to drive 18-hour shifts and even then his settlement checks came out negative.

The segment, entitled "Trucking fleets shed old identities in scheme to evade federal enforcement," speaks frankly and for a general audience about something owner-ops will know well already: "Chameleon carriers," or entities running away from negative safety records simply by setting up a new carrier.

Fusable provided 60 Minutes an alarming piece of analysis that served to underscore not only the media narrative, but clearly drives the regulatory crackdown around chameleon carriers.

The stat is that chameleon carriers are four times more likely to be involved in crashes than others.

FMCSA chief Barrs has been saying for months his agency plans to move aggressively against such carriers with multiple MCs to avoid enforcement. With new guidance on buying and selling MC numbers, as well as efforts to address the "front door problem," as Barrs called FMCSA's outdated registration system on the CBS program, the agency hopes to stem the tide of bad actors.

Crucially, the CBS television program showed video of the infamous "paper numbers" hustle, with a driver removing decals on the truck door. The decal he was removing, KG Line Group, has already been linked to another chameleon carrier group responsible for a deadly crash in IndianaStill from the 60 Minutes broadcast, showing the change of company names on the door.Still from the 60 Minutes broadcast, showing the change of company names on the door.

Overdrive reporting found that group advertising U.S. truck driving work in Russian-language YouTube videos.

FMCSA said it's already investigating that chameleon carrier group, and has vowed to make swift progress on revoking their motor carrier authorities

But while FMCSA has promised action on this front, and Barrs hinted to 60 Minutes Super Ego was a priority, perhaps the news here is of an open secret.

A class action lawsuit representing drivers who say they were scammed by Super Ego kicked off in August 2022. In 2025, mega broker C.H. Robinson named Super Ego its Carrier of The Year in the 1,000+ trucks category.

Overdrive hasn't found any USDOT number under the name "Super Ego" with that many trucks. Super Ego, in fact, denied to 60 Minutes that it operated as a motor carrier, calling itself a leasing company.

The primetime segment also showed ELD manipulation, playing a recording of an ELD company altering a driver's logs.

Overdrive has reported in-depth on a suit against another big Chicago-area fleet alleged to use a series of ELDs to cheat on hours of service rules

These networks maintain encrypted chat rooms where drivers can call or text for more hours, and Overdrive has seen video evidence of an ELD being reset by a driver who hauled for a fleet that moved a lot of Super Ego trailers.

Overdrive contacted Super Ego, FMCSA and C.H. Robinson for comment, but did not hear back in time for publication.
