Bill to delay ELD mandate two years filed in House
If enacted, owner-operators would have two additional years, to December 2019, to switch from paper logs to an electronic logging device. The bill has hurdles to clear before becoming law, however.

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration has added an online tool that allows manufacturers of electronic logging devices to test whether their records of duty status (RODS) files will transfer properly to enforcement officers during roadside inspections.

Supreme Court rejects ELD appeal, ending OOIDAâs challenge options
In a win for FMCSA, the Supreme Court has declined to take up OOIDAâs challenge, leaving in place a lower court decision that upholds the rule and its Dec. 18 compliance date. OOIDA says it will continue its ELD challenge via Congress and the White House.

Is it necessary for an ELD to âsupportâ intrastate hours rules?
The short answer: As a matter of regulation, no. The electronic logging device mandate is written in a manner that is more or less agnostic to the hours of service rule a particular driver is operating under. Nonetheless, say ELD providers, rule-set support can be helpful.
