Always good for a novel approach to traffic and road maintenance (and social media), the Washington State DOT has brought on a goat herd as the newest among its road clean-up and maintenance crew employees.

Their task? Weed control, as Maintenance Lead Technician Heidi Holmstrom explains in the video above.

Got a goat herd of your own in the state? While Holmstrom as a DOT employee “essentially donates the services of her goats,” reported the Columbian news site, “in other parts of the state, the agency has hired local herders to provide weed-eating goat power.”

File under side opportunities, I suppose. Does Oklahoma DOT do this? Occurs to me that might give us a decent explanation for how these guys got to where they were found last week
