Overdrive has been named a finalist for three Jesse H. Neal Awards, which recognize exemplary work in business journalism.
For in-depth coverage of trucking’s brokered-freight transparency debate, Overdrive was named a finalist in the Best Government, Legislative and Regulatory Coverage category. Broker transparency, of course, has long been a hot topic in trucking. Throughout 2024, Overdrive surrounded the subject with research, analysis and reporting culminating with the post-election release of a rule-change proposal.
In the Best News Coverage category, Overdrive was recognized for its work covering the plague of freight fraud in trucking. Coverage included a look at the double brokering problem, along with stories from victims and much more.
Finally, Overdrive’s package analyzing the impacts of two decades’ worth of emissions regulations have impacted truck prices and reliability was selected as a finalist in the Best Series category. The series included a survey of Overdrive readers on the subject, a look at how looming emissions regs could impact new truck prices, and how emissions regulations have impacted truck drivers’ views of the reliability of equipment through the years. The series concluded with a look at data from Overdrive partner organization Price Digests on the used-truck market and how emissions systems affect truckers’ purchasing decisions and more.

The winners will be announced Friday, May 16.
