Truck drivers who frequently cross the I-74 Mississippi River Bridge traveling from Illinois into Iowa will soon be required to detour around the bridge because of a construction project.
The Illinois and Iowa departments of transportation say that, beginning Monday, March 18, construction of the new I-74 Mississippi River Bridge will require all westbound interstate through-traffic to be detoured to I-80 and I-280. The eastbound bridge will remain open.
The new Iowa-bound bridge is expected to be open to traffic in the first half of 2020, the departments say.
