Sacramento promoting plug-in over idling

The Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD) is working with drivers and truck stop operators to achieve a clean-air alternative to truck idling. SMUD has partnered with federal and state agencies to promote a big rig plug-in program to reduce truck emissions. More than 30 electrical Shorepower hookups have been installed at the Sacramento 49er Truck Travel Plaza, off Interstate 80. The current 18-month demonstration project is intended to gather technical data and determine feasibility. If it works, the project will go commercial, SMUD says.
