The Shorepower Truck Electrification Project (STEP) has reopened a limited number of idle-reduction equipment rebates for approved diesel-powered APUs, battery-powered HVAC systems and evaporative cooler systems with electric standby. STEP is also providing more than 1,000 plug-in connection kits to drivers who qualify. The kits are provided on a first-come, first-served basis at no charge, but the recipient is responsible for installation costs. Two types of kits are available. The rebates are for 20 percent of the installed equipment cost, up to a maximum of $1,600 per unit for APUs and HVACs. The maximum rebate for evaporative cooler systems is $700.
