Most regions decreased slightly, led by a 1.4-cent decline on the West Coast. California slipped 0.2-cent to $4.438, the nation’s highest. The Rocky Mountain, New England and Central Atlantic areas reported small increases.
The national average price is at its highest level since Sept. 1, 2008, when it was $4.121 a gallon. The record diesel price was $4.764 in July 2008.
