Diesel prices falling

After weeks of climbing, diesel fuel prices are plunging.After weeks of climbing, diesel fuel prices are plunging.

For the second week in a row, the national average retail price of a gallon of diesel dropped this week, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration.

The price plunged 7.3 cents to $3.021 in the latest week, the biggest drop in 17 months.

All regions reported large declines, led by a 8.2-cent drop to $2.985 in the Midwest. The high-priced West Coast fell 7.2 cents to $3.132, while California dropped 7.6 cents to $3.162.

For the first time in months, the Midwest, Gulf Coast and Lower Atlantic areas fell under $3 a gallon.
