Pennsylvania ends truck idling exemption

Pennsylvania has stopped its idling exemption for trucks during federally mandated operator rest periods.

Before May 1, trucks were exempt from the idling restriction under a 2008 state law covering idling of diesel-powered motor vehicles, the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection said in a statement.

Meanwhile, the state legislature is meeting in a special session to discuss ways to make up a $470 million shortfall in transportation funding.
